Acyclic curves and group actions on affine toric surfaces
We show that every irreducible, simply connected curve on a toric affine surface X over C is an orbit closure of a Gm-action on X . It follows that up to the action of the automorphism group Aut(X) there are only finitely many non-equivalent embeddings of the affine line A in X . A similar description is given for simply connected curves in the quotients of the affine plane by small finite line...

Let Γ0 ⊂ O(2, 1) be a Schottky group, and let Σ = H2/Γ0 be the corresponding hyperbolic surface. Let C(Σ) denote the space of geodesic currents on Σ. The cohomology group H1(Γ0, V) parametrizes equivalence classes of affine deformations Γu of Γ0 acting on an irreducible representation V of O(2, 1). We define a continuous biaffine map C(Σ)×H1(Γ0, V) Ψ −→ R which is linear on the vector space H1(...

In this paper we complete the classification of effective C-actions on smooth affine surfaces up to conjugation in the full automorphism group and up to inversion λ 7→ λ of C. If a smooth affine surface V admits more than one C-action then it is known to be Gizatullin i.e., it can be completed by a linear chain of smooth rational curves. In [FKZ3] we gave a sufficient condition, in terms of the...

We study the class of 2-dimensional affine k-domainsR satisfying ML(R) = k, where k is an arbitrary field of characteristic zero. In particular, we obtain the following result: Let R be a localization of a polynomial ring in finitely many variables over a field of characteristic zero. If ML(R) = K for some field K ⊂ R such that trdeg K R = 2, then R is K-isomorphic to K[X, Y, Z]/(XY − P (Z)) fo...
